Today my little and I laid out the 100 chain. We used the flags to mark each 10.
Then we pulled out some of the other flag boxes for other chains, and laid them out on our 100 chain. All of a sudden the 100 chain is now a number line!
We then investigated how closed each of the additional flags was to a 10s flag – and we moved them to the closest 10! All of a sudden, the 100 chain can be used for rounding activities!
I left the lesson with a question? What is the reason for moving a flag up to the nearest 10 or down to the nearest 10?
