I ordered these two books from one of the used book websites, and I think they'll be great.

Even better - The Y2K Survival Guide & Cookbook:
1. Is totally marked up by the previous owner with notes and check lists
2. Has a planning guide from the State of Pennsylvania tucked inside
3. Has a shopping list
4. Almost all the recipes are vegan

Awesome primary sources!

I also think she'll get a kick out of all the pictures in the Time Magazine Year in Review book, and will particularly like the soccer pages!

Did you catch my buried news yesterday? The 3 year old kid in these photos is attending her second day of high school today.

We never set out to homeschool, but she has been with my on my DIY Montessori journey since before she ever went off to preschool or Kindergarten, and long befor eI ever posted anything on Instagram. We always supplemented preschool and the early grades with activities at home - with me DIYing just about everything as we went along.

Then, when COVID hit, we just seamlessly transitioned into homeschool. School closed on that Friday, and we were up and running by Monday, and we never looked back. We have head a truly wonderful experience with some wonderful homeschool friends, big themed homeschool days, our charter school, local classes, field trips, and all sorts of other activities. Being able to follow the child, build learning around her interests, and dive deep into interesting topics has been amazing.

And now, she's off to high school, well prepared for whatever is coming next. She's gonna (continue to) be amazing. ❤

Big changes happened in our learning space this summer...our cube shelf that has been the mainstay of our home learning resources since...well, todderhood...has moved on!
Other pieces of furniture have come and gone, but this one has always been around. The truth is that we don't need it anymore. The girls need the shelf in their bedroom to organize more and more and more books and craft supplies.
My yougest helped me clean our space out and change things around several weeks ago. Our new set up has condensed to just two bookcases that were also already in this space.
My oldest is also heading to our local high-school this week (eek!) so I will just have my youngest homeschooling. There are a few math materials still out, but most of the other books and materials she would use are in their natural places around the house now. As an approaching third-plane child, she is capable of finding what she needs, where she needs it. This has her notebooks and textbooks consolidated, and a space for my highschooler to store whatever she brings home.

I have been just about completely silent all summer, so before I talk about the upcoming school year, maybe I'll throwback to the end of the last school year a bit!

My kids have been studying Art History this year, with our favourite homeschool buddies, and led by the amazing @bringhomeknowledge. They began the school year right back at the beginning with ancient cave art, and worked all the way up to finish the year during the Renaissance.

At the end of the school year each student was assigned a project looking back at one of the time periods they studied. As they presented, we also got to see a gallery walk of some of the pieces they created this year.

The end of the school year hit like a whirlwind, so it’s been quiet on here.

Class listings for our homeschool community came out today though, and I’m busy prepping my new geography class. Each student will deep dive into one country, thinking about how physical geography affects human geography, and how humans adapt. Later in the semester we’ll look at how countries interact and trade with each other, and then finish up in a debate format, working together to meet everyone’s needs.

This week my Mathematical Art class finished our Ancient Andean inspired quilt/stamping projects.

A few kids began the class wanting to make a second set of stamps so we really had a good number of sets for the kids to choose from, and then throughout the rest of class everyone was passing their sets back and forth. From the outset I had presented the project as a collaborative effort (everyone would make their own images, but the stamp sets we created would be shared), and I was lovely to see the kids so happy to share and discuss their different stamp sets. We had a couple of kids who made sets of three stamps, and those were very popular!

This week my Mathematical Art class finished our Ancient Andean inspired quilt/stamping projects.

A few kids began the class wanting to make a second set of stamps so we really had a good number of sets for the kids to choose from, and then throughout the rest of class everyone was passing their sets back and forth. From the outset I had presented the project as a collaborative effort (everyone would make their own images, but the stamp sets we created would be shared), and I was lovely to see the kids so happy to share and discuss their different stamp sets. We had a couple of kids who made sets of three stamps, and those were very popular!
