Setting Up the School Nest Timeline Book

We love adding information to our School Nest Timeline books at the end of our history unit studies. Over the last few weeks I’ve seen a few discussions come up on different homeschool groups about the books, and I thought I’d share how we set up our Pre-History section.

School Nest doesn’t add dates to the pre-history section, and so I thought for a long time about how I wanted to set that up, divide out the dates and all. My scales aren’t consistent throughout. I adjusted as I saw fit to get everything in.

Not gonna lie…I also got myself a book as well as getting ones for the kids. Haven’t done it with the kids yet, but I labeled the various Eons and such in my book. You can see my labels too.

Here’s what I did:

Awaiting an amazing artwork…

I labeled the Pre-History cover page as 13.8 billion years ago (BYA).

Page 1

On the first page, I labeled the markers as follows (source):
13.8 BYA – 1 second: Inflation, elementary particles exist.
13.8 BYA – 3 minutes: Nucleosynthesis begins.
13.8 BYA – 300,000 years: First stars and galaxies form.

12 BYA
10 BYA
8 BYA
6 BYA
4 BYA
2 BYA
