Description

Ten tells the story of Maya, a young girl living in Malaysia who is football (soccer obsessed). Through the novel she overcomes attitudes of family members who would prefer she not play soccer and changes in her family life. Her drive leads her to form a girls’ football team at her school, helps her examine cultural stereotypes, and sends her on an international adventure.

My simple novel study splits the book into four sections, with 4-7 comprehension questions per section. These could be discussed verbally or answered in short paragraph form.

Also included are suggestions for one or more end-of-novel projects.

The book is appealing to third grade and up. The novel study could be executed over as little as a week (one section per day), or as much as six weeks (one section per week, with two weeks for projects).
