Imaginary Island: Sample Student Text Pages

A curriculum purchase is an important decision, but how do you know if a product style will work for your family, co-op, or classroom? I’m going to dive into some samples from my Imaginary Island Student Text so that you can see what’s inside…

You can download the Imaginary Island Curriculum Sample here, or read on to see the images and get more information:

The first page of the Imaginary Island Curriculum Sample File gives a very brief overview of the Imaginary Island Curriculum, and a quick, broad outline of the project. Much more background knowledge and detail is given in the actual Imaginary Island Curriculum. Below this information, the titles of all 30 lessons are listed.

The Imaginary Island Curriculum contain four main curriculum files:
– The Imaginary Island Student Text
– The Imaginary Island Instructor Guide
– The Imaginary Island Metric Supplement
– The Imaginary Island Printable Posters
BONUS: My Island Research Guide is also included!

Next up is a sample page from the Imaginary Island Student Text. This document is written directly to the student. As much as possible the text features photographs to enhance the learning. Maps, graphs, and other diagrams are included throughout.

A further sample from the Imaginary Island Student Text, shows the layout. Text is written in a clear, easy to read, well spaced style. Only images or diagrams that enhance the lesson are included. The pages are not cluttered with multiple boxes and asides that detract from the main text.

One more text sample from the Imaginary Island Student Text shows that complex information (in this case information about different climate types around the world) is presented in short, easy to digest chunks with graphs that make the information clear. As you can see, these climate lessons also feature in the Imaginary Island Metric Supplement. The Imaginary Island Student Text is written using US Customary (Imperial) units. The Imaginary Island Metric Supplement duplicates about 4 lessons with Metric units.

The Imaginary Island Student Text also provides space for students collect their ideas and show their work as they build a picture of their island. Periodic “Your Island So Far” pages encourage students to build a narrative about their island. These pages can be used as jumping off points for paragraph or essay writing, posters, presentations, and more.

Finally, the images, charts, and graphs featured throughout the Imaginary Island Student Text are collected and duplicated at a larger size in the Imaginary Island Printable Posters document. This allows larger versions of the images to be projected and/or examined in more detail.
